Keeping Your Apartment Safe When Out of Town

Do you worry about your apartment when you’re traveling, residents of Carmel Landing? Are you wondering how you can protect your home when you’re out of town? Check out these great tips, courtesy of suite101.com, on how to keep your apartment safe while you’re gone.

•    Hide all of your valuables and expensive possessions while you’re gone. You should conceal them in unobvious places, hiding places where robbers wouldn’t think to look for valuables. Irreplaceable belongings shouldn’t be out in the open where robbers can easily see them.

•    Don’t broadcast the fact that you’re going out of town. Only tell your most trusted friends and relatives. When you’re packing your vehicle to leave, do so discretely. You want to leave the appearance that you’re still at home, not traveling.

•    Avoid a fire starting in your apartment while you’re gone by double-checking that everything in your apartment that could cause a fire is turned off and unplugged. Make sure all of your kitchen appliances (including your oven, microwave, etc) are shut off. Turn off all the lights in your apartment.

•    Create the illusion that you’re still at home by setting your lamps and television sets on timers so that they turn on and off at certain times. Many TVs come with built-in timers, but if you need to, these timers can be purchased at most local retailers.
